Tiny Tots Tricks and Tips Chat Recap 1:18 PM on Sep. 23, 2008 Last night’s chat was on FUNDRAISING. If you weren’t able to make it, we missed you. For those of us who are there, we had a good discussion and kicked around several ideas on fundraising.
No matter what kind of fundraiser you do, the most important thing is to get those involved excited about the event! How can you do this? Usually just passing out a flyer is not enough.
You should have a specific goal in mind that you want to earn with the profits.
Maybe you want to purchase new playground equipment; let people know that! Some ideas that came up were to use a picture of the item and make a puzzle out of it. For a certain amount of sales, a piece goes up, until it’s complete. Or, use a gauge/meter that goes up as funds come in. Let your imagination go wild! One provider said that she had a friend who sold squares of carpet for her playroom. As the family completed their goal, they got credit for that square!
How proud and excited they will be to know that they’ve contributed to such a great cause! Get the kids excited! Show them what you’re going to buy and how it will benefit them. They’ll be sure their parents are on the ball!
If you haven’t seen PaMom65’s blog on her fundraiser for her playground fence, please look it over. She got some BEAUTIFUL literature from vistaprint.com to support the event as well! She has done a wonderful job of getting her parents excited. At least one has volunteered to help bake!
Some other wonderful ideas that were either discussed or sent to us were:
Have a Yard Sale/Rummage Sale! Ask parents to donate their stuff to the event. Get a booth at a fair/carnival and have parents sign up to work. Host a table at a craft show Have a spot at the mall for kid activities/playtime. gmom9 does this! She is able to get reduced pricing on the spot because she has activities for the kids. www.golittlelambs.com cookie dough www.magfundraising.com magazine subscriptions and renewals…all online…you send an email and watch for the check. Peverett did this and got a check for $40 with only 2 orders! Not too shabby! Fruit from www.halegroves.com In this case, she sold with another group and split the profits…not a bad idea to reach more people! www.sallyfoster.com Discovery Toys has a toy-raiser…one of our members is a rep and can help out with info…send her a message or visit www.discoverytoyslink.com/pat A lot of other direct sales companies have fundraising opportunities, Avon, Mary Kay, etc. Contact local reps or corporate websites for info.
WHEW! Take a Breath….there’s more!

jycalv - 1:59 PM on Sep. 23, 2008 [ message ] I just ran across a cute idea...worth a try...check it out. It's called "can you spare a dollar?" It would be great for parents who are not allowed to sell things at work. http://www.k12grants.org/tips/spare_dollar.pdf
jycalv - 1:50 PM on Sep. 23, 2008 [ message ] One thing that came up that no one was able to answer was: Do you have to claim funds earned from fundraisers on taxes as income? Does it wash with the expenxe of items purchased? If you know, please post an answer, it would help so many.
jycalv - 1:37 PM on Sep. 23, 2008 [ message ] Thanks to everyone that contributed both last night and in messages before hand. I failed to mention that vwilkins said she did a cookie fundraiser and it raised $500. She was able to purchase a really nice table and chairs.
