Starting a family childcare business is a wonderful opportunity that few get to take. It is a decision that can't be made hastily. It is a decision that has many rewards and requires lots of flexibility and patience. Not knowing where to start is something that can really be discouraging for some. This is one place to connect to those of us who've been in your shoes and "feel your pain". We've learned, mostly through trial and error, great training, and gut feelings. We are a very diverse group with lots of ideas. We want you to know that you're not alone. Lean on us for support. Ask questions. Nothing is too small.

The decision to start taking care of other peoples children whether it is in a large daycare center or a home daycare center, is not a decision to make lightly. Make sure that you do plenty of research on this with topics that include but are not limited to:

1) Do I really want to be responsible for taking care of others children?

2) Do I want to do it at a center or start one in my home?

3) If I do it from my home do I have room?

4) Do I have the money to start a child care center at home?

5) What items will I need to start one from home?

6) Is the area that I live in have a need for a child care facility?

7) How many children do I feel comfortable taking care of?

8) What insurance do I need and can I afford to pay for it?

9) Am I willing to participate it any continueing education courses that are required of me to ensure the educational wellbeing of the children that I keep?

10) MOST OF ALL - Am I doing this because I love kids, or because I want the money? Because this business will NOT make you rich!

If in fact after considering this and many other questions that you may have you still decide to become a Professional Childcare Provider, there is no better place to enlist in help and support than CCVillage.net!

I totally agree with PaMom65, those are some great questions to ask yourself.....What helped me was Kris Murray, the Daycare coach. Websites like Education World Early Childhood Education Newsletter & Idea Box, ideas for activities. You can Google all of these things. I wish you luck......
