You don't need to be a large corporation to have a business plan. The truth is, all businesses should have one. Not only does it give you a purpose and goals, it also signals to the world that you are serious about what you do.

To give you a personal example: a few years ago we were trying to refinance our house for a lower interest rate. Since my husband is disabled, I am the main income producer for our family, but being self-employed it thought it would be difficult to find a lender without proof of income. The first lender we went to looked over the application and tax forms I had, then asked me if I had a business plan - and because I had one, I was able to get the loan.

So... to start this thread... how many of you have a business plan, or have thought about writing one?

Sorry... I have had some personal issues to deal with... We can all do this together. I will post the steps, then I would like you all to provide some feedback.

Step One:

Statement of purpose: this is a brief statement (one of two paragraphs) explaining your business. Pretend that someone just asked you to tell you about your business - what would you tell that person? Your statement should include:

1) What your business is: family home; large home; center.
2) Why you are in this business.
3) Why this type of business is needed.
